$1.4 billion in expatriate remittances by late May

Jordanian expatriate remittances were at about $1.4 billion by the end of last May, compared to $1.421 billion during the same period last year, according to Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) data. On a monthly level, the remittances of workers abroad saw an improvement during the month of May, rising about 2.3 percent from the same month of last year, to reach $296.8 million, the figures showed. Expatriate remittances are a main source of foreign currency reserves, which, currently stood at about $17.5 billion, according to latest CBJ statistics.
