10th International Jordanian Chemical Engineering Conference Inaugurated


Amman: The 10th International Jordanian Chemical Engineering Conference was officially opened on Monday, with Maher Abul Samen, Minister of Public Works and Housing, representing the Prime Minister at the event. The conference is organized by the Chemical Engineering Division at the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) and focuses on the pivotal role of chemical engineering in current global challenges and future economic strategies.

According to Jordan News Agency, Abul Samen emphasized the significance of the conference amidst the evolving landscape of chemical engineering and the compounded challenges posed by recent global events, such as the Covid-19 pandemic. He highlighted the critical need for Jordan to enhance self-reliance in goods and services and to reduce dependence on foreign markets. Abul Samen noted, “This conference underscores the urgent need for Jordanian industrialists, particularly in the chemical sectors, to leverage national capabilities and foster scientific and technological research t
o navigate and stay abreast of these challenges.”

The minister also referenced the economic modernization vision, which positions high-value industries as a cornerstone for transforming Jordan into a regional industrial hub. This vision aims at boosting fast-growing exports with high-value products and developing comprehensive strategies, plans, and legislative frameworks that promote a collaborative approach between the public and private sectors.

Furthermore, Abul Samen discussed the government’s commitment to enhancing the scientific and professional standards of engineers and engineering institutions in Jordan. This involves collaborative efforts that integrate researchers, academics, and engineers in chemical processes both locally and internationally.

JEA President Ahmad Samara Al-Zoubi also spoke at the event, praising the Chemical Engineering Division for its ongoing efforts in advancing research and fostering connections with national and international institutions. Al-Zoubi lauded the division an
d the committee of the Best Jordanian Product Award in the chemical and plastics industries for their sustained contributions over the years.
