Beirut:A coordinated maritime rescue operation successfully averted the sinking of the vessel SEA HORSE, which had developed a severe list threatening its crew and the marine environment. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport's Directorate General of Land and Maritime Transport announced that the emergency services and maritime authorities managed to prevent the incident from escalating by securing the vessel's safe berthing at Beirut Port.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the operation involved rescuing several crew members and implementing technical and precautionary measures. The vessel initially faced difficulties off Sidon Port and was unable to enter Jiyeh Port, prompting its transfer to Beirut under Civil Defense escort. Upon arrival at the port's waiting area, some crew members jumped into the sea out of fear, but were promptly rescued by the Lebanese Navy's Maritime Search and Rescue Center with the assistance of Civil Defense personnel.
Throughout the operation, Beirut Port authorities and the directorate's vessel safety department, under direct supervision, continued to assess the ship's condition. The management of Beirut Port provided the necessary facilities for the operation, and the pilotage station coordinated entry and mooring procedures. These efforts reduced the vessel's list to approximately 18 degrees, enabling it to berth safely at Quay 11 for further technical intervention.
The directorate emphasized the critical role of technical preparedness, coordinated emergency response, and maritime monitoring in the successful operation. It highlighted the importance of strengthening maritime emergency capabilities to protect lives, ensure navigational safety, and maintain the reliability of Lebanese ports.
