NEW YORK: UN's Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, condemned on Tuesday the killing of more than 40,000 Palestinian people in the aggression on the Gaza Strip, calling for a ceasefire. This came in a statement following his visit to the Gaza Strip and in light of the "humanitarian tragedy witnessed in the region" since Israel began its aggression on the Strip on October 7. Wennesland said, "The scale of destruction is enormous and the humanitarian needs are worsening." He added, "I categorically condemn the horrific number of civilian deaths in Gaza." He affirmed that he visited the polio vaccination center in the Strip, stressing that "the re-emergence of the disease poses a new threat to children in the Gaza Strip."
