Beirut:Lebanese Forces MP Ghassan Hasbani has accused Hezbollah of attempting to block the referral of the Dahr El-Baidar explosives case to the Judicial Council. He argues that the referral would set a precedent with significant legal and political impacts.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, Hasbani expressed these concerns during an interview with Voice of All Lebanon radio. He emphasized that the incident presents an opportunity for the government to enforce its decisions regarding Hezbollah's weapons, which have been declared illegal by a series of Cabinet resolutions.
Hasbani reiterated the commitment of the Lebanese Forces to government decisions, warning that not enforcing them could undermine the government's credibility. He mentioned that while Lebanese Forces ministers have no current intention to resign, they have not ruled out any options if public trust in the government erodes.
Addressing the upcoming Israeli elections, Hasbani indicated that he does not foresee a significant change in regional dynamics, pointing to the ongoing US-Iranian confrontation and Israel's conflicts with Iran and Hezbollah.
When questioned about the Lebanese Forces' participation in the Bekaa parliamentary by-election, Hasbani confirmed the party's readiness to engage in democratic contests, stating that candidate decisions will be made once the electoral process is initiated.
