Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Reiterates Condemnation of Attacks on UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon


Vienna: The Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a renewed condemnation of the repeated assaults on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), emphasizing the critical need for the security and safety of peacekeepers in the volatile region of southern Lebanon.

According to Emirates News Agency, the ministry’s recent statement highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by UNIFIL personnel. The statement read, “We once again condemn the repeated attacks on UNIFIL, and all parties are obligated to ensure their safety and security at all times.” This reiteration of support for UNIFIL underscores Austria’s commitment to international peacekeeping efforts and the importance of adhering to United Nations Security Council mandates.

The ministry also disclosed that it has been in communication with Israel to stress the importance of the safety of UNIFIL forces. The statement said, “This position has been reiterated to our Israeli partners.” Austria has been an active participant in the UN peaceke
eping mission in Lebanon since 2011 and currently has around 170 soldiers serving in UNIFIL.
