Minya: A tragic train collision in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Minya on Sunday resulted in the deaths of at least two individuals and injuries to 20 others. The incident involved a locomotive that collided with the rear of a passenger train, leading to significant derailment and subsequent casualties.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) reported that the locomotive, originating from Qena, struck the back of a passenger train that was en route from Aswan to Cairo. This collision caused two of the train’s carriages to derail and plunge into the nearby Ibrahimiyah Canal. Despite the severity of the accident, the remainder of the train was able to separate from the derailed carriages and continued its journey towards Cairo. The ENR is currently investigating the cause of the collision and has begun recovery operations for the derailed carriages.
The local authorities have coordinated emergency response efforts, and medical teams were dispatched promptly to the scene to
attend to the injured. The incident has reignited concerns about railway safety in Egypt, a country that has faced several tragic train accidents over recent years. The government has pledged to continue its efforts in improving infrastructure and safety measures on Egyptian railways.
