AMMAN: Security forces in AMMAN: ‘s Al-Wehdat neighborhood arrested six individuals following disturbances that broke out during a campaign to clear sidewalk encroachments by street vendors, authorities reported on Sunday.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) stated that a joint committee comprising various authorities conducted the operation in Al-Wehdat, where street vendors had previously been issued multiple notices and deadlines to address the encroachments. The announcement came after vendors failed to comply with the directives aimed at decongesting public spaces.
The PSD spokesperson detailed that during the enforcement action, several vendors resisted the removal of their stalls, leading to riotous behavior. Security personnel responded with what was described as appropriate force to quell the disturbances, resulting in six arrests. Meanwhile, the committee continued its task of clearing the encroachments to restore order and accessibility to the area’s sidewalks.
