Muscat: The State Audit Institution (SAI) of Oman has successfully reimbursed a total of RO 177 million to the state treasury, following its comprehensive 2023 inspection activities. This sum includes RO 95 million recovered from cases in 2023 and RO 82.7 million from 2022 cases, according to the latest reports.
According to Oman News Agency, the findings were released in the SAI’s “Community Brief,” which details the results of the institution’s 2023 annual report and its continuous monitoring of various government units, investments, and companies under its oversight. The “Community Brief” is part of SAI’s efforts to adhere to the Sultan of Oman’s directive to uphold principles of transparency, integrity, accountability, and responsibility across all sectors.
Ahmed Salim Al Rujaibi, Deputy Chairman of SAI, emphasized that the brief was crafted as per the 2023 annual inspection plan, which aligns with the “Oman Vision 2040” and standards set by the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (
INTOSAI). The plan focuses on crucial areas based on significance and risk analysis.
In 2023, SAI processed 115 cases involving public funds, leading to various outcomes including convictions, financial penalties, and prison sentences ranging from one month to ten years. The fines imposed in these cases varied from RO 200 to RO 63,000, alongside additional penalties.
Al Rujaibi also noted that 28 cases have been forwarded to the Public Prosecution for further action, 22 are under investigation, and 65 are carryovers from previous years.
