Smeirat Announces Tax Exemption for IT Export Profits to Propel Sector Growth


AMMAN: In a significant move to bolster Jordan’s position as a regional hub for the information technology (IT) sector, the Cabinet has approved amendments for a tax exemption on profits derived from IT goods and services exports for the year 2024. Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smeirat, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Royal directives to enhance the sector’s growth and competitiveness.

According to Jordan News Agency, Minister Smeirat expressed that the approval of the mandating reasons of the amended bylaw reflects the government’s commitment to fostering a supportive legislative environment for the IT industry. The amendments, he noted, are designed to exempt the net income of taxpayers involved in exporting IT-related services, including computer, IT, and outsourcing services, until December 31, 2033.

In his press statement, Smeirat highlighted the government’s effective partnership with the private sector and its extensive studies on the sector’s conditions. Thes
e efforts aim to identify and address the key needs and requirements crucial for advancing this vital industry, which is considered a fundamental investment driver in Jordan.
