GENEVA: Represented by the Council of Oman, the Sultanate of Oman participated in the 149th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)'s General Assembly, highlighting significant initiatives in artificial intelligence (AI) and the need for enhanced international cooperation. According to Oman News Agency, Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council, delivered an impactful speech during the session. He outlined Oman's strategies in employing AI and digital technologies to achieve sustainable development and security. Al Maawali emphasized the role of science, knowledge, technology, and innovation in reaching these strategic goals. In his address, Al Maawali also expressed concerns over the misuse of AI technologies, particularly in manipulating humanitarian issues. He specifically highlighted the ongoing AI-enhanced aggression facing the Gaza Strip and the Lebanese Republic, calling for unified efforts to halt these violations. Al Maawali further stressed the broader mission of the IPU, whic h transcends fostering dialogue among parliaments to addressing all forms of aggression and injustice. He affirmed that these efforts are crucial for maintaining international stability, protecting peoples' rights, and ensuring global peace.
