Hezbollah Accuses Israel of Using Banned Cluster Bombs in Southern Lebanon

BEIRUT: Hezbollah Media Relations announced that Israel launched rockets containing internationally banned cluster bombs into several areas of southern Lebanon on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, between 12:30 and 2:00 p.m. The targeted locations included Wadi al-Khanazir in Wadi Al-Hujayr, Khallet Raj between Alman and Deir Siryan, and areas east of Alman towards the forests. According to National News Agency-Lebanon, Hezbollah condemned the attack as a "barbaric crime" and an addition to what it described as a series of Israeli crimes against Lebanese and Palestinian peoples. The statement highlighted the use of cluster bombs, which are banned under international law, and criticized Israel's actions as showing a "blatant disregard for all international covenants, norms, and laws, especially in times of war." Hezbollah has called on both local and international parties, including human rights and humanitarian organizations, to condemn these actions. The organization emphasized the long and negative repercussions such events have on civilians and described the incident as a failure of Israel to "confront the fighters of the Islamic Resistance" effectively.
