AMMAN: The Public Security Directorate's Traffic Department reported that run-over accidents in 2023 led to 219 fatalities, representing 36.1% of all traffic-related deaths in the Kingdom. According to Jordan News Agency, these incidents highlight significant concerns about traffic safety and adherence to regulations. The Public Security Directorate (PSD) described the statistics as indicative of the risks associated with ignoring traffic safety measures. The PSD pointed out that these deadly accidents often result from not following essential driving precautions and distractions, notably the use of mobile phones while driving. Negligence by pedestrians, such as not using designated crossing areas and a general lack of caution, were also significant factors contributing to these incidents. The Traffic Department has urged all citizens to follow traffic rules diligently and emphasized the need for cooperation between drivers and pedestrians to decrease the number of such tragic events in the future.
