ABU DHABI: The Louvre Abu Dhabi has launched its new exhibition titled "Post-Impressionism: Beyond Appearances," which opened on October 16, 2024, and will continue to welcome visitors until February 9, 2025. The exhibition, which showcases pivotal works by prominent artists of the Post-Impressionist movement, is curated in collaboration with Musée d'Orsay and France Muséums. According to Emirates News Agency, the exhibition was inaugurated by Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Louvre Abu Dhabi, and features around 100 artworks from visionary artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, and Georges Seurat. These pieces have been gathered from nine different museums and cultural institutions, highlighting the collaborative nature and extensive reach of this project. Curated by Jean-Rémi Touzet from Musée d'Orsay and Jérôme Farigoule from Louvre Abu Dhabi, with additional support from several experts including Aisha Alahmadi, the exhibition not only displays classic paintings but also includes works o n paper and textiles. This broad range of media provides a comprehensive overview of the Post-Impressionist era, which is known for its pivotal role in the transition from traditional to modern art forms during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, emphasized the museum's ongoing partnership with Musée d'Orsay, remarking on the success of their previous collaboration on the Impressionism exhibition in 2022. He highlighted the vibrant scenography of the current exhibition which aligns with the region's burgeoning art scene and fosters an environment of innovation and openness. Dr. Guilhem André, Director of Scientific, Curatorial and Collection Management, pointed out that the exhibition showcases masterpieces that reflect the unique perspectives and interconnected styles of artists like Paul Gauguin and Maurice Denis. He praised the far-reaching impact of Post-Impressionism, as evidenced by the inclusion of works by Egyptian artist Georges Hanna Sabbagh. The e xhibition is structured into nine thematic sections, each dedicated to different facets and figures of the Post-Impressionist movement, such as the Neo-Impressionist Path and the Van Gogh Path. Interactive multimedia installations provide visitors with immersive experiences, enabling them to engage directly with the artworks and learn about the artists' techniques and stories. Additionally, the exhibition is complemented by a diverse cultural and educational program, including public talks, podcasts, and creative culinary events themed around the artworks. Educational activities designed for various age groups aim to enhance visitor engagement and understanding of Post-Impressionist art. Supported by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and L'Officiel Arabia as media partner, the exhibition not only serves as a significant cultural event in Abu Dhabi but also strengthens the global art community's connection with the Gulf region.
