Washington: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed held discussions on Wednesday, focusing on the urgent need for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict across the Blue Line, aligning with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 which aims to foster peace and stability in Lebanon. According to Kuwait News Agency, during the conversation, Secretary Blinken emphasized the critical necessity for swift humanitarian aid to the residents impacted by the conflict in southern Lebanon. State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller provided insights into the discussions, highlighting the significant contributions made by the UAE. "The Secretary thanked the Foreign Minister for the UAE's provision of USD 100 million in humanitarian aid for Lebanon and USD 30 million in aid for Lebanese citizens who have fled to Syria," Miller stated. The discussion also covered broader regional security issues, including the situation in Gaza. Secretary Blinkin reiterated the im portance of reaching a ceasefire agreement that would not only bring home the hostages but also alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and aim to bring an end to the conflict. The talks underscore the United States' continued commitment to working with regional partners like the UAE to address and resolve the multifaceted crises affecting the Middle East, fostering diplomacy and humanitarian aid as cornerstones of their approach.
