Iraqi Kurdistan Elections See Record Turnout, Says Electoral Body

ERBIL: The voter turnout in Iraq's Kurdistan region election reached an unprecedented 97 percent, the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced. The election saw 208,521 ballots cast across the region. According to Kuwait News Agency, IHEC reported that the voting process was both well-organized and successful. The commission noted that initial results would be made public 24 hours following the close of voting. The election, which commenced at 7:00 a.m. local time and concluded at 6:00 p.m., involved 749 polling stations. The electoral process was monitored by a substantial number of observers, with 1,527 international and 3,100 local observers overseeing the proceedings. Additionally, 30,573 party deputies participated in the election, ensuring wide representation and scrutiny.
