KUWAIT CITY: Minister of Social Affairs, Family Affairs, and Childhood, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, emphasized the significance of participating in the "white cane procession" as part of efforts to support individuals with impairments and enhance their social roles. The event was organized by the Kuwait Blind Association in observance of Global White Cane Safety Day. According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Al-Huwaila remarked during her participation in the procession that the white cane serves as a crucial tool for the visually impaired, enabling them to achieve independence and integration into society. Reports from the World Health Organization highlight the cane's importance in fostering self-reliance among the visually impaired. Fayez Al-Azmi, the chair of the Kuwait Blind Association, noted that the organization has received support from various national entities since its inception 50 years ago, following directives from the country's leaders. Throughout its history, the association has accomplished several initiatives, including establishing a care center for visually impaired youth under 18, a Quran publishing center using Braille, and the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad sports facility. Al-Azmi also highlighted other achievements, such as creating an electronic library, hosting conventions and seminars, and offering training courses and programs. Looking ahead, the society plans to organize an Arab-level conference and a Gulf sports tournament in February. Society secretary Mansour Al-Enezi stated that the association places significant emphasis on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. Global White Cane Safety Day, observed on October 15, aims to promote the self-sufficiency and independence of the blind community.
