GCC Chief Urges Intensified Relief Efforts for Lebanon

Washington: The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Al-Budaiwi, has called for increased international and regional efforts to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to Lebanon. This appeal was made during a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic, Dr. Saadeh Al-Shami, on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group meetings in Washington. According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Budaiwi reaffirmed the GCC's support for the Lebanese people during these challenging times. He emphasized the solidarity of GCC member states with Lebanon, urging intensified efforts to alleviate civilian suffering and protect them from the ongoing war's repercussions. The Secretary-General expressed optimism that Lebanon would overcome its current challenges and achieve both security and stability. The meeting also explored the GCC-Lebanese relations across various sectors. Al-Budaiwi commended the ongoing humanitarian efforts by GCC states to support Le banon, highlighting their continuous assistance in helping Lebanon cope with its difficult circumstances. The discussions took place during the 2024 IMF-WBG annual meetings, which are scheduled to continue with main ministerial meetings and events from October 22 to 25.
