Lebanon’s Speaker Berri Discusses Diplomatic and Humanitarian Efforts Amid Israeli Aggression.

Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri held a meeting at the second presidential office in Ain al-Tineh with caretaker Minister of Labor Mustafa Bayram. The meeting focused on Lebanon's formal complaint to the International Labour Organization (ILO) regarding Israel's recent aggressive actions. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Minister Bayram briefed Speaker Berri about the complaint submitted in Geneva. The complaint highlights the extensive damage caused by Israeli airstrikes on communication systems, impacting workers across Lebanon. Bayram described the acts as unprecedented and criminal, emphasizing Lebanon's diplomatic responses, which include meetings with over 25 ambassadors and a press conference asserting Lebanon's adherence to international law. Bayram also discussed Lebanon's diplomatic stance, stating that despite efforts to uphold international resolutions, Israel's continued non-compliance forces Lebanon to resist occupation. He noted the cautious optimism surrounding a potential agree ment to cease aggression, stressing Lebanon's unwavering commitment to its sovereignty and rejection of any attempts to undermine its resistance. The Labor Minister recalled a significant incident on September 27, when Israeli actions disrupted Lebanon's ceasefire efforts. He described the continued Israeli aggression as war crimes, highlighting Lebanon's resilience in preventing Israel from achieving its military aims. Bayram further spoke about his meeting with Iranian official Ali Larijani, who reaffirmed Iran's support for Lebanon's government and people. The Labor Minister also mentioned the anticipated visit of U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein and ongoing international focus on the situation. Regarding U.S.-drafted proposals for ceasefire, Bayram remarked that Lebanon is committed to Resolution 1701 but will reject any mechanisms infringing on its sovereignty. He clarified Hezbollah's role as a defensive force, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the state's responsibility. Reflecting on past conflicts, Bay ram noted Hezbollah's adherence to Resolution 1701 during the 2006 war, despite Israel's numerous violations. He condemned Israel's consistent disregard for international agreements and its use of cluster bombs. Bayram concluded by discussing a monitoring committee for the ceasefire, highlighting Speaker Berri's leadership in ensuring Lebanon's sovereignty. In a separate meeting, Minister of Displaced Persons Issam Sharafeddine proposed measures to support displaced citizens and depositors, seeking increased withdrawal limits and aid for their medical and educational needs. Sharafeddine praised Speaker Berri for his attention to these issues and mentioned plans to present the proposals to Prime Minister Mikati for Cabinet consideration.
