Beirut: The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, is scheduled for a diplomatic tour in the Middle East from 20 to 24 November. This significant journey aims to address pressing regional issues, including the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the tour will commence in Amman on Wednesday, 20 November, where Borrell will have an audience with King Abdallah II. Additionally, he is set to deliver a keynote speech at the University of Jordan under the auspices of Princess Rym Ali. The following day, Borrell will engage in discussions with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, culminating in a joint press conference. He will also hold meetings with Palestinian leaders, further emphasizing the EU's commitment to regional peace efforts. On Friday, 22 November, Borrell will proceed to Cyprus to participate in an event organized by the Two-State C oalition for Israel/Palestine. There, he will deliver a keynote speech focused on fostering dialogue between civil societies from both nations. The tour will conclude in Lebanon on Sunday, 24 November, where Borrell is expected to conduct several bilateral meetings. These include discussions with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Josef Aoun, and representatives of the United Nations. The backdrop of this diplomatic mission is the dire situation in Gaza and the escalating military tensions in Lebanon. Borrell's visit aims to explore potential pathways toward a sustainable ceasefire and a longer-term peace process based on the Two-State solution, engaging with regional partners to find a viable resolution to these enduring conflicts.
