Beirut: Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri addressed former Progressive Socialist Party Chief Walid Jumblatt on the 48th anniversary of Martyr Kamal Jumblatt's assassination. Hariri highlighted the shared history and aspirations for Lebanon's future, emphasizing the unity forged by the blood of Kamal Jumblatt and Rafic Hariri.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Hariri's statement acknowledged the arrest of the prime suspect in Kamal Jumblatt's assassination, marking a significant moment as the anniversary is observed. He reflected on the historical context, noting that 48 years ago, the Hafez al-Assad regime was responsible for Jumblatt's assassination, leading to the Syrian army's entrance into Lebanon. Hariri linked this to the later withdrawal of the Syrian army following the assassination of his own father, Rafic Hariri, 28 years later.
Hariri remarked on the quest for justice for Kamal Jumblatt, Rafic Hariri, and their comrades, acknowledging that while earthly justice has remained elusive, divine justice is unavoidable. He emphasized the enduring legacy and responsibility shared by those who continue to defend Lebanon's sovereignty and independence.
He urged cooperation in navigating a new phase for Lebanon, advocating for a state where the army and official security forces hold exclusive control over weapons, and the constitution governs all citizens. Hariri asserted that unity under the state's banner is essential to prioritize Lebanon's interests above all else.
