Cairo: Egyptian presidential spokesperson, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, said on Saturday that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, to discuss bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, as well as the situation in the Gaza Strip. The call was part of preparations for Macron's upcoming visit to Egypt, according to Sky News Arabia.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the spokesperson added that the call was a chance to discuss the most important cooperation topics to be raised during the visit in line with the interests of the two friendly countries, including the possibility of holding a tripartite Egyptian-French-Jordanian summit in Cairo during the French president's visit to Egypt.
El-Shenawy stated that the call addressed "developments in the Gaza Strip, whereby Egyptian efforts to achieve a ceasefire were reviewed. The two presidents emphasized the importance of restoring calm through an immediate ceasefire and the provision of humanitarian aid."
He added that they "stressed the importance of the two-state solution as the only guarantee for achieving lasting peace in the region."
Macron plans to travel to Egypt on Sunday for a visit that will include the city of Al-Arish, near the Gaza Strip, which he is expected to visit on Tuesday, where he aims to emphasize the need for a "ceasefire" in the Strip and support the delivery of humanitarian aid to its residents.
