Beirut: A joint statement was released by the State of Qatar and the Republic of Lebanon following the official visit of President General Joseph Aoun to Qatar. The visit, which occurred on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, was in response to an invitation from HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the visit highlighted the strong fraternal relations between Qatar and Lebanon, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening cooperation across various fields. The bilateral talks between HH the Amir and President Aoun focused on enhancing relations and advancing Lebanon's economic reform plans.
The discussions underscored the diverse opportunities available for both nations to enhance cooperation, consolidate partnerships, and increase trade and investment to serve mutual interests. Regional and international developments were also addressed, with an emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy, particularly concerning southern Lebanon.
On the topic of Arab affairs, both leaders reiterated their support for Palestinian rights and the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders. They also emphasized support for Syria's unity and the Lebanese Army's role in maintaining stability, with Qatar pledging a renewed grant of USD 60 million and 162 military vehicles for the Lebanese Army.
President Aoun expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by Qatar, while HH the Amir reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to Lebanon's stability and territorial integrity.
