Beirut: Free Patriotic Movement Head, MP Gebran Bassil, has expressed his deep concerns regarding the fate of Christians in Syria, while also acknowledging the challenges faced by other religious or ethnic groups.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Bassil articulated his worries in a statement released on Saturday, highlighting the ongoing mass killings in Syria based on religious identity or differing opinions. He expressed pain and concern over the situation in Syria, a country with which Lebanon shares a rich cultural heritage. Bassil lamented the loss of this heritage and expressed solidarity with individuals persecuted because of their beliefs or affiliations.
Bassil elaborated on the unique challenges faced by various groups in Syria. He noted that while groups such as the Kurds, Druze, Alawites, and Shiites have geographical or authoritative protection, Christians in Syria face vulnerabilities due to their openness and widespread presence across the nation. He highlighted that the protection for Christians does not come from external forces but rather relies on divine intervention.
In concluding his statement, Bassil emphasized the importance of shared awareness in safeguarding homelands and expressed a heartfelt plea for divine protection over Syria and Lebanon amidst the ongoing turmoil.
