Vatican City: Pope Leo XIV said on Sunday, following the US strikes on nuclear sites in Iran, that "humanity cries out and demands peace" in the face of "the disturbing news coming from the Middle East," calling on diplomacy to "silence the weapons.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, after the weekly Angelus prayer at the Vatican, the Pope said that "every member of the international community bears the moral responsibility to put an end to the tragedy of war, before it turns into an unbridgeable abyss."
Addressing thousands of worshippers in St. Peter's Square, he continued: "Today, more than ever, humanity cries out and demands peace. It is a cry that requires responsibility and rationality, and it must not be drowned out by the noise of weapons and rhetoric that incites conflict."
He said: "No victory with weapons can compensate for the suffering of mothers, the fear of children, and the stolen future. Let diplomacy silence the weapons. Let nations build their futures on acts of peace, not on violence and bloody conflicts."
He emphasized that "wars leave deep wounds in the history of peoples."
