AIA Urges Enforcement of Consumer Protection Law in Lebanon

Beirut: The Association of Automobile Importers (AIA), which represents the accredited representatives in Lebanon for all automotive manufacturers worldwide, has called on the relevant Lebanese authorities to enforce Article 44 of Law No. 659 to ensure effective consumer protection. This law, introduced on February 4, 2005, is designed to protect consumers from apparent or hidden defects in products that could endanger their safety or health, which may surface in products purchased in the local market. According to National news agency - Lebanon, the association has urged competent authorities to rigorously implement this law, ensuring that Lebanese consumers receive their rightful manufacturer's warranty and continuous updates on the products they buy. This enforcement is crucial in safeguarding consumer investments and reinforcing road safety, a concern that is increasingly deteriorating. The association also emphasizes the importance of Lebanese consumers asserting their legal rights. In its concluding r emarks, the association highlights that only vehicles sold by authorized representatives of global manufacturers in Lebanon come with reliable warranties. These warranties ensure access to genuine spare parts, particularly for electric and hybrid vehicle batteries. Such vehicles are maintained exclusively by qualified engineers and specialists and are subject to recall campaigns and continuous monitoring of electronic systems and their programming.
