Nicosia: During a joint press conference with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, delivered a speech highlighting the deep historical and cultural ties between Lebanon and Cyprus. He noted that while Cyprus is set to celebrate the 51st anniversary of its modern republic in just 11 days, the relationship between the two nations stretches back centuries.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun remarked, "We are almost twins," emphasizing the shared geographical and historical connections that bind the two countries across the Mediterranean Sea. He recalled how both nations have historically been crossroads for empires and trade, sharing both the burden of conflict and the pursuit of peace, freedom, and prosperity.
Aoun further stressed the importance of dialogue and equitable peace as shared aspirations, adding, "We believe that what history and geography bind, no numbers or calculations can divide." His speech underscored the enduring bonds between Lebanon and Cyprus, which transcend mere political or economic calculations.
The President concluded by praising the strong Lebanese community in Cyprus and reaffirming both nations' shared role in fostering hope and regional cooperation. His remarks highlighted the ongoing commitment to nurturing the historical ties and mutual support between the two countries.
