Beirut: At the Port of Beirut, vehicles were handed over to support 17 stations of Lebanon's Gendarmerie Unit of the Internal Security Forces (ISF), with funding from the European Union.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, this support aims to enhance the ISF's ability to reach more areas, serve a larger number of communities, enable faster response to security needs, and help strengthen trust between people and public institutions. General Jean Awad, Head of the ISF Gendarmerie, emphasized that this support directly addresses some critical gaps, benefiting 17 stations by enhancing their mobility, extending their territorial reach, and enabling faster and more effective responses to community needs.
Mr. Samy Saadi, Charg© d'Affaires a.i. of the European Union Delegation to Lebanon, stated that the European Union views this support as a concrete investment in Lebanon's stability and the safety of its people. He highlighted that this initiative is part of an £8 million EU-funded program, designed to reinforce Lebanon's capacity to recover and maintain stability during this critical time.
Mr. Thair Shraideh, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, remarked that this support is part of UNDP's broader commitment to peacebuilding in Lebanon. By strengthening security services, the effort aims to foster safety, inclusion, and trust in the State's ability to protect and maintain stability.
