Washington: MP Neemat Frem, on his visit to the United States capital, attended a dinner banquet hosted by Dr. Claude Karam and his wife, Pascale Karam, bringing together over seventy members of the Lebanese community residing in Washington, D.C.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the event featured discussions on Lebanon's current situation and regional issues. MP Frem emphasized the importance of the upcoming period and the collective awareness it demands from Lebanese expatriates. He outlined the circumstances that have led Lebanon to its current state over the past decade and stressed the need for an election law that strengthens the role of Lebanese expatriates globally.
Frem appealed to the expatriates to register in large numbers for the upcoming elections, highlighting the danger of losing polling stations outside Lebanon due to low voter registration. He warned that such a move would deprive the diaspora of its right to participate in national decision-making and weaken the democratic process.
He urged the expatriates to register in their places of residence to prevent any pretext for moving polling stations to Lebanon, emphasizing that expatriate awareness is crucial for the national rescue process. Frem concluded by acknowledging the economic support provided by the diaspora during difficult times and stressed the importance of their role in the upcoming elections, calling for a parliament that truly represents the diaspora.
