Sofia: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, conducted a joint press conference with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev at the Bulgarian Presidential Palace following their bilateral talks. The discussions focused on the regional situation in the aftermath of the Gaza agreement.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun emphasized the critical role of the Lebanese army, stating that the army alone is responsible for extending the state's authority over its territories and borders. He stressed the importance of halting Israeli attacks and ensuring Israel's withdrawal from occupied areas within Lebanon. Aoun pointed out that negotiations are essential for achieving Lebanon's national objectives and highlighted past successful negotiations, including the maritime demarcation with Israel and efforts to cease attacks.
President Aoun expressed support for the Gaza agreement, urging its full implementation and encouraging its expansion to address other unresolved regional crises. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy resolutions and the two-state solution principle.
Aoun also instructed the foreign ministers of Lebanon and Bulgaria to draft a memorandum of understanding to strengthen bilateral relations and address common issues. He underscored the significance of judicial and criminal cooperation between the two countries, particularly concerning the Beirut port explosion investigation.
In his remarks, Aoun acknowledged the positive cooperation from Bulgarian authorities, emphasizing Lebanon's commitment to uncovering the truth behind the Beirut port explosion and ensuring justice through established legal procedures.
