Beirut: Labor Minister Mohammad Haidar and Information Minister Paul Morcos held a joint press conference at the Ministry of Labor to introduce a new guide titled 'Informing Citizens of Their Labor Rights.' This manual, designed to educate citizens on their labor rights, is available both in print and online. It was prepared by Minister Morcos's team and features simplified Q and A sections, legal templates, and practical examples related to workers' rights.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Minister Haidar expressed gratitude to Morcos for his initiative and stressed the significance of inter-ministerial cooperation in safeguarding the rights of workers, employers, and journalists, particularly during challenging times.
Morcos stated that this guide is part of a larger series on citizens' rights across various sectors. He assured that the guide will be regularly updated in collaboration with the ministry to incorporate legal amendments and judicial precedents. The guide covers essential topics such as employment contracts, annual leave, maternity rights, and workplace safety.
Haidar also highlighted ongoing efforts to extend social security coverage to freelance journalists and photographers, revealing ongoing coordination with the National Social Security Fund to lower their contribution rates. Additionally, he mentioned proposals to address end-of-service compensations and discussions on raising the retirement age to 66 or 68 through upcoming legislation.
