Tunis: The General Assembly of the Arab States Broadcasting Union convened its 45th session at the Union's headquarters in Tunisia, gathering representatives from Arab radio and television stations, ministries of information, and both Arab and international media institutions. Lebanon was represented by a delegation led by Dr. Hassan Falha, Director General of the Ministry of Information, and Mohamed Gharib, Director of Radio Lebanon.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the General Assembly reappointed Muhammad bin Fahd Al-Harthi, advisor to the Saudi Minister of Information, as President of the Union. Kuwaiti Muhammad Abdul Mohsen Al-Awash was appointed as the first deputy, and Iraqi Media Network head, Minister Abdul Karim Hammadi, was elected as the second deputy president. Engineer Abdul Rahim Suleiman was re-elected as Secretary-General of the Union for another two-year term.
The session also saw the formation of the Executive Council of the Arab States Broadcasting Union and the Executive Office for Emergency Affairs for the 2026-2027 term, as per the Union's laws. A coordination meeting preceded the General Assembly, attended by heads of participating delegations. Dr. Hassan Falha and Muhammad Gharib represented Lebanon, discussing future strategies and collaboration to enhance the Union's work.
Dr. Falha emphasized the importance of cooperation for advancing joint Arab media efforts, highlighting ongoing coordination to develop effective mechanisms for Union operations and collaboration among Arab media entities.
On the sidelines of the General Assembly, the Lebanese delegation engaged with various participating delegations, including discussions with Engineer Abdul Rahim Suleiman, the Union's Director General. Talks focused on ensuring continued efforts of the Arab States Broadcasting Union, its role in advancing joint Arab media, and collaboration with international media institutions. The discussions also covered the renewal of the Union's administration, acknowledging its contributions to revitalizing joint Arab media endeavors.
