Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri on Wednesday welcomed Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, to the second presidency headquarters in Ain al-Tineh. Lacroix was accompanied by a delegation, and the meeting included Speaker Berri's media advisor, Ali Hamdan.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the discussions during the meeting focused on the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as the tasks of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in south Lebanon. Lacroix expressed gratitude to Speaker Berri for his support for UNIFIL and described the meeting as positive. He also mentioned that they discussed the phase following the conclusion of UNIFIL's mandate.
Following this engagement, Speaker Berri met with Karim Souaid, the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon. In the afternoon, Berri also held a meeting with Dr. Jihad Azour, the Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the International Monetary Fund and a former Minister.
