Yaroun: UNIFIL has issued a stern warning following an incident involving potential illuminating flare mortar rounds impacting a UN position southwest of Yaroun. The incident raised significant concerns about the safety of peacekeepers stationed in the area.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the flare mortar rounds struck the helipad and the main gate of the UN position, prompting peacekeepers to seek immediate shelter. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the incident. In response, UNIFIL promptly sent a stop fire request to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to prevent further escalation.
UNIFIL emphasized the IDF's responsibility to ensure the safety of peacekeepers and to halt activities that pose risks to their security. The statement highlighted that any actions jeopardizing peacekeeper safety are serious breaches of Security Council resolution 1701 and threaten the stability that UNIFIL strives to maintain in the region.
