Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri hosted several key meetings at Ain el-Tineh, engaging with international and local officials on Tuesday. Among the visitors was Iranian cultural advisor Mohammad Reza Mortazavi, who was accompanied by Ali Qasir, the Media and Communication Officer at the Iranian Cultural Office. Mortazavi presented a report on the Al-Sadiq Al-Amin International Holy Quran Competition and expressed gratitude to Speaker Berri for his support in the event’s success.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Speaker Berri also met with former MP Assem Qanso to discuss the country’s general situation and the latest political developments. Additionally, the President of the Higher Customs Council, Brigadier General Misbah Khalil, along with Council members Louay El-Hajj Shehadeh and Charbel Khalil, visited Speaker Berri to mark their appointment. Brigadier General Khalil briefed Berri on the Customs Department’s work program, emphasizing plans to enhance customs operations in Lebanon, which is crucial for the country’s financial and economic recovery.
Later in the day, U.S. Senator for Michigan, Elissa Slotkin, visited Speaker Berri along with her delegation. The discussions included the general situation in Lebanon and the surrounding region, with a focus on Israel’s continued violations of the ceasefire agreement. Berri detailed Lebanon’s adherence to the ceasefire terms, the implementation of UN Resolution 1701, and the Lebanese Army’s efforts in maintaining peace.
In a separate note, Speaker Berri received a congratulatory message from Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah on the occasion of Ramadan, extending greetings and expressing hopes for enhanced cooperation and prosperity for the peoples of both nations.
