Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, has condemned the Israeli strike that targeted journalists Ali Shuaib, Fatima Ftouni, and Mohammad Ftouni on the Jezzine road. In a statement, Aoun described the attack as a violation of international laws and treaties that provide protection for media personnel in conflict zones.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun emphasized that the aggression violates basic rules of international and humanitarian law, specifically targeting media correspondents who are civilians performing their professional duties. He highlighted that the attack is a blatant crime against international norms designed to safeguard journalists during armed conflicts.
The President referenced key international agreements, citing the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their protocols, that afford journalists protection. He specifically mentioned Article 79 of the Additional Protocol I (1977) and UN Security Council Resolution 1738, which prohibit the targeting of journalists unless they are directly involved in hostilities.
President Aoun strongly condemned the attack and urged international parties to intervene to halt ongoing violations on Lebanese territory. He extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to Lebanon's press and media community.
