Baabda: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Thursday called on International Organization for Migration Director General Amy Pope to increase support for Lebanese displaced by Israeli attacks in the south, Bekaa, and Beirut's southern suburbs, while also assisting host communities to preserve social stability.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the meeting took place at Baabda Palace, with the presence of Imran Riza. Aoun emphasized the necessity for sustained international backing to address the needs of the displaced and the communities hosting them.
Pope highlighted the severe pressure the displacement is placing on local communities, noting ongoing coordination with partners to secure necessary funding and enhance the humanitarian response. Both leaders agreed on the importance of de-escalating tensions and reinforcing stability as essential steps in tackling Lebanon's humanitarian and economic challenges.
