Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Monday welcomed any assistance aimed at ending the war but stressed the distinction between support and interference in Lebanon's internal affairs, emphasizing that Lebanon is a sovereign state and that "no one negotiates on our behalf."
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, speaking before a delegation from the Greek Catholic League, Aoun said the state-not sects-is responsible for protecting all citizens, stressing that there is no alternative to a strong, unified state that represents all Lebanese.
He noted that political competition is legitimate but should not obstruct state-building efforts, adding that while the right to differ is sacred, division among the Lebanese is unacceptable, particularly under current circumstances.
Aoun also underscored that the most effective path to combating corruption lies in advancing e-government services and ensuring an effective, independent judiciary.
