Beirut: Maronite Patriarch, Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, on Friday met MP Ibrahim Kanaan to discuss political developments, President Joseph Aoun's upcoming visit to the United States, the Lebanese Army, economic and financial reforms, depositors' rights, and efforts to restore confidence in state institutions. Rahi emphasized the importance of hope, strengthening state institutions, and preserving Lebanon's message of freedom and coexistence through dialogue and cooperation.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Kanaan highlighted that Lebanon's future lies within the framework of the state, urging unity behind the presidency, the army, and constitutional institutions. He asserted that Aoun's Washington visit should focus on consolidating stability, ending the war, restoring Lebanon's rights, enabling displaced residents to return, and launching reconstruction. Kanaan also called for legislation to protect depositors' rights and restore confidence in the banking sector.
Rahi later met with Spain's Ambassador to Lebanon, Miguel de Lucas Gonz¡lez, to discuss bilateral ties and Lebanon's model of coexistence.
