Beirut: Prime Minister, Dr. Nawaf Salam, on Monday received UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, and his work team, at the Grand Serail, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tarek Mitri. Premier Salam welcomed Turk's visit and commended the work being carried out by the team of experts tasked with preparing a report on violations related to international humanitarian law since October 2023.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the meeting focused on recent efforts to document and address violations of international humanitarian law. Dr. Salam expressed his appreciation for the comprehensive report prepared by the UN team, highlighting its importance in shedding light on critical humanitarian issues.
The discussion also covered potential collaborations between the UN Human Rights Office and the Lebanese government to ensure the protection of human rights and the adherence to humanitarian standards in Lebanon. Both parties emphasized the need for continued cooperation and dialogue to address ongoing challenges in the region.
