Aoun Commends General Security Directorate on 81st Anniversary, Urges It as a Model for Governance

Beirut: President Joseph Aoun celebrated the 81st anniversary of Lebanon's General Security Directorate, highlighting its contributions and urging it to be a model for other state institutions. Speaking at the directorate's headquarters in Beirut's Museum district, Aoun acknowledged the sacrifices made by its personnel and the legacy of its martyrs.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun emphasized that he attended the ceremony not to uplift the morale of the General Security personnel but to draw inspiration from them. He expressed his hope that the directorate could become a benchmark for other state administrations. He underscored the importance of leadership during challenging times, pointing out that true leadership is demonstrated in adverse conditions rather than in periods of peace and stability.

Addressing the personnel directly, Aoun highlighted their essential role in serving citizens and protecting their dignity. He stressed that human dignity is a universal right, not limited to the wealthy, and should be ensured through the provision of entitled services without favoritism. He commended the directorate's progress over the past year and a half, attributing it to the commitment of its personnel to both the institution and Lebanon.

Aoun also touched on an ongoing internal struggle over the role of the state, contrasting those who undermine state institutions with those committed to upholding them. He reassured the personnel that their efforts are for the benefit of the citizens whose rights need protection. He encouraged them to disregard media criticism, asserting that their achievements and sacrifices would stand as their testament.

Furthermore, Aoun emphasized the importance of accountability, stating that officials who fail to assume responsibility for their decisions are unfit for office. He praised the General Security personnel for their ability to bear responsibility amid difficult circumstances, reinforcing their value to the state and its citizens.
