Rights Groups Call on Lebanon to Address Detainees’ Situation at UN Human Rights Council

Beirut:A joint delegation from the Khiam Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture and the Qana Human Rights Observatory has urged Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi to seek international intervention regarding Lebanese detainees in Israeli prisons.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the delegation submitted a memorandum and a draft resolution for consideration at the UN Human Rights Council's session in March 2027.

The groups claim that approximately 38 Lebanese nationals are detained by Israeli forces, with an additional 40 individuals missing. They allege that the detainees face torture and are denied visits by the International Committee of the Red Cross. The memorandum seeks the disclosure of detainees' locations, humane treatment, international monitoring, and assistance for the detainees' families.

Raggi expressed concern over the issue and committed to reviewing the proposal, emphasizing that any further action would be determined by the Lebanese government. The delegation also announced intentions to garner support from Lebanon's senior political leadership.
