Lebanese Forces Urge Judicial Council Action on Explosives Case Amid Electricity Concerns

Beirut:The Strong Republic parliamentary and ministerial bloc, along with the Lebanese Forces Executive Committee, has demanded the referral of the Dahr el-Baidar explosives case to the Judicial Council. The call was made during a meeting chaired by party leader Samir Geagea, focusing on recent developments in the case and the ongoing electricity crisis in Lebanon.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the participants argued that the quantity of explosives seized, along with Hezbollah's acknowledgment of ownership, necessitated urgent judicial intervention. They recalled the government's March 2 decision that banned Hezbollah's military and security activities, mandating the group to surrender its weapons to the Lebanese state.

The meeting highlighted that delaying the referral for further investigations was unjustified, as the case poses a threat to national security, Lebanese sovereignty, and state authority. The bloc also criticized the government's delays, particularly by the Finance Ministry, in settling payments to Électricité du Liban (EDL), warning that continued inaction could lead to reduced electricity supply during the winter.

The statement from the meeting acknowledged the Energy Minister's efforts to enhance electricity provision but emphasized that progress depended on the Finance Ministry's adherence to financial obligations. The participants urged immediate government action to resolve these payments, indicating that any reduction in electricity supply would implicate the government in the resulting consequences.

They concluded by stressing that ensuring citizen security and a stable electricity supply are essential state responsibilities, especially amid the country's severe economic and living challenges.
