Palestinian Minister of Agriculture, Riyad Al-Atari, said today, Saturday, that the olive season this year will witness a significant decline in production.
Al-Attari explained, in radio statements monitored by Sawa News Agency, that specialized agricultural extension teams provided recommendations on dates for olive harvesting and expected quantities of production this year.
He indicated that this year will witness a decline in olive production compared to last year, noting that the expected quantity of olive production will approximately reach about 60 thousand tons.
Al-Attari pointed out that this quantity is equivalent to the production of 12,000 tons of olive oil, compared to last year, which reached 30,000 tons.
The Minister of Agriculture continued, “In Palestinian society, we need approximately 15,000 tons of olive oil, but there is no fear of that, because according to the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture, 10,000 tons are available from last season. They will be added to the 12,000 tons of oil this season, and thus there is no need.” for import from abroad.
The Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture announced on Thursday that the olive harvest season for this year will begin on the twelfth of next October, in all governorates of the country.
The Ministry of Agriculture explained in a press statement that the agricultural directorates in the governorates may delay the announced date according to the public interest and the specificity of the region
