Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, conveyed to members of the Quintet Committee that the Cabinet's decision, which underscores the Lebanese state's exclusive authority over matters of war and peace, is "a sovereign and final decision with no reversal." This announcement comes amid ongoing tensions and highlights Lebanon's stance on maintaining national sovereignty.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun also mentioned that the Cabinet has tasked the Army and security forces with implementing the decision throughout Lebanese territory. This move is part of a broader effort to prevent unauthorized military and security activities within the country.
In his address, Aoun urged the Quintet countries to exert pressure on Israel to cease its attacks on Lebanon. He reiterated Lebanon's full commitment to the cessation of hostilities framework and expressed the country's readiness to resume negotiations, which would include civilian participation and international oversight.
Furthermore, the President stressed Lebanon's dependence on the Quintet's ongoing support for stability and the restoration of institutional functions. He noted that recent rocket launches targeting occupied territories originated from outside the area south of the Litani River, a region where the Lebanese Army is actively deployed and fulfilling its duties.
