Arab information ministers gather in Morocco to discuss cooperation

Information ministers from across the wider Arab region assembled in Morocco on Wednesday to discuss recent initiatives taken with the aim of bolstering cooperation in the media industry.

These initiatives, which include a "joint platform" linking information ministries across the region, form a "comprehensive strategy" that seeks to usher in greater cooperation in field of media, said the Cairo-based Arab League's media department chief Ahmed Khatabi.

Arab information ministers had recently given the thumbs up to a "unified strategy" to regulate social media outlets and media platforms across the region, according to Karam Jabar, who serves as Egypt's chief media organizer.

The ministers are meeting in the Moroccan capital to discuss how far progress has come on a plan to build a media "roadmap" towards sustainable development goals.
