Tyre: Army Commander, General Rodolph Haykal, inspected the South Litani Sector Command at the Benoit Barakat Barracks in Tyre, meeting with officers and soldiers stationed there.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Haykal emphasized the crucial role played by the deployed units in serving the nation and contributing to its resilience. He highlighted the military's duty to protect Lebanon and its people, regardless of their affiliations.
Haykal noted the significant efforts of the Lebanese army in the south, as confirmed by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) leadership and the five-member committee supervising the ceasefire agreement. He affirmed the army's commitment to implementing Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement, following directives from President General Joseph Aoun and the Lebanese government. Cooperation with UNIFIL remains a priority.
General Haykal pointed out obstacles to the army's deployment and ceasefire consolidation, citing the presence of Israeli forces in occupied Lebanese territories and repeated attacks on Lebanon. He criticized these actions as violations of national sovereignty and attempts to justify further hostility.
Addressing rocket launches from Lebanese territory towards occupied Palestinian territories, Haykal stated that such actions serve the enemy. The army is investigating these incidents and has detained suspects for questioning.
He also reiterated the army leadership's commitment to supporting soldiers, particularly through enhanced military medical coverage. The Army Chief extended warm wishes to soldiers for Eid al-Fitr.
General Haykal concluded his visit by inspecting the Maroun al-Ras Center, part of the Fifth Intervention Regiment, where he reviewed the operational status in the area.
