Army Commander: Military Presence in South Pillar of Stability Amid Elections

Sidon: Lebanese Army Commander, General Rodolphe Haykal, on Saturday inspected the central operations room in South Lebanon, based at Mohammad Zgheib Barracks in Sidon, where he was briefed on the security measures implemented by deployed military units to ensure the safety of the electoral process. The Army Chief also visited the headquarters of the Fifth Infantry Brigade in Bayyada and received an update on its deployment and accompanying security measures.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, General Haykal stressed the importance of elections amid current exceptional challenges, saying: 'The success of this electoral process reflects the southerners' commitment to their land, and the army's presence is a vital source of reassurance and resilience.' He added that the army firmly stands with the Lebanese people. Despite continued Israeli violations and its occupation of Lebanese territory, these threats will not deter the military from fulfilling its duties.

Concluding his address to the troops, General Haykal stated: 'The army is a guarantee of stability, and security institutions are pillars of the state. The Lebanese look to you to safeguard their future-live up to their trust and hopes.'
