Arrest Warrant Issued Against Former Minister’s Brother in Embezzlement Case

Beirut: First Investigating Judge in Beirut, Bilal Halawi, has issued an arrest warrant against Karim Salam, the brother of former Economy Minister Amin Salam, on charges of embezzlement, extortion of insurance companies, and illicit enrichment. This action follows a lawsuit filed by the Financial Public Prosecution. During the court session, Salam appeared alongside his attorney, lawyer Tony Frangieh.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Judge Halawi has scheduled a follow-up hearing for next Thursday. The hearing aims to gather testimonies from three key witnesses: George Matossian, the owner of Mashrek Insurance, Fadi Tamim, and Elias Abboud, who is the head of Lebanon's Association of Certified Public Accountants. These testimonies are expected to shed further light on the allegations against Karim Salam and provide crucial insights into the case.
