SHARJAH: American University of Sharjah (AUS) has introduced the Rashid Bin Humaid Athletic Scholarship Fund, marking its inaugural sports scholarship and emphasizing its commitment to promoting both academic and athletic excellence among its students. According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of American University of Sharjah, stated that the Rashid Bin Humaid Athletic Scholarship Fund represents the university's dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals who excel in both academics and athletics. She emphasized that by empowering athletes, AUS is investing in their future success while highlighting the significance of resilience, discipline, and leadership. The initiative aligns with AUS's commitment to holistic development, ensuring a nurturing environment for diverse talents. Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman and Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, stressed the scholars hip fund's importance in supporting students to achieve their ambitions. The grant aims to establish an AED 5 million fund to support students demonstrating exceptional sports abilities and academic excellence. Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid also mentioned that various entities and institutions are committed to empowering gifted student-athletes to pursue their academic and athletic aspirations at the university, helping them overcome financial challenges. He underscored the role of institutions in nurturing students' talents, skills, and potential to achieve significant accomplishments in different fields. Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, spoke about the 'transformative' impact of the Rashid bin Humaid Athletic Scholarship in fostering a robust sports culture and academic achievement. He highlighted the scholarship's role in strengthening the university's reputation as a leader in both academic and athletic arenas.
